- Spend plenty of time on the water practicing reefing and upwind sailing in Cal Adventures’ fleet of Coronado 15s

Level 1: Basic Course
Learn sailing theory, safety, and develop a strong foundation of skills in four half-day morning classes. This course will be composed of demonstrations, lectures, and plenty of time on the water in our fleet of Coronado 15s. You will develop the necessary skills (tacking, gybing, capsize recovery, docking, etc.) to move onto our Intermediate Sailing class.

Level 2: Intermediate Course
Learn reefing, upwind sailing, and crew overboard recovery in four half-day afternoon sessions. Cultivate skippering and technical skills needed to safely sail with guests who have little or no sailing experience. After successful completion of this course students are eligible to rent Coronado 15 sailboats, take advanced sailing clinics, and potentially enroll in the Advanced Sailing class with permission from their instructor. Students must complete basic sailing or take a private lesson before enrolling.

Level 3: Advanced Course
Designed for the sailor who would like to become certified to rent our high-performance Ventures while refining current skills. Course includes fine-tune rigging, capsize recovery, docking, anchoring, and using a trapeze. Prerequisite: Basic and Intermediate Sailing or a private checkout, in addition to approval from an instructor based on demonstrated competent boat handling on our Coronado sailboats. Graduates of our one-day Venture Certification course are also eligible and are encouraged to take this course to further their skill set.

Level 2: Social Sail Series
The Social Sail Series is a great opportunity for Cal Adventures sailors to meet and sail with other sailors, as well as venture beyond the South Sailing Basin (our normal boundary for rentals). Eligible sailors will sail together in the SF Bay with the accompaniment of Cal Adventures staff in motorboat(s). Pre-registration encouraged but walk-ups allowed. Prerequisite: Basic Sailing or a private checkout.

Level 2: Racing Series
The Racing Sail Series is for sailors looking to socialize while racing with and against other sailors. Each session will include a 30-minute racing classroom clinic followed by racing with a staff race official. Pre-registration encouraged but walk-ups allowed. Prerequisite: Basic Sailing to race as crew and Intermediate Sailing (or a private checkout) to race as a skipper.

Venture Certification
When you’re ready to get certified to rent our higher performance Venture sailboats, this one-day course will familiarize you with the Venture rigging and sailing characteristics. Prerequisite: Basic and Intermediate Sailing or a private checkout, in addition to approval from an instructor based on demonstrated competent boat handling on our Coronado sailboats.

Level 1: Saturday Night Cruise
Never been sailing? Interested to give it a try? Then Level 1: Saturday Night Cruise is just the thing for you! Join experienced staff and volunteer sailors on an evening cruise around the South Sailing Basin. Sail in RS Ventures high-performance sailing vessels and return to Berkeley just as the sun beautifully sets over the Golden Gate.
