Science & Sports (S2) Camp - Grades 3-5

Develop your mind and body at Science & Sports Camp (S2), a partnership between Lawrence Hall of Science and Cal Youth Camps.

Year-Round Youth Programs and Camps for Summer 2020 Cancelled – Due to COVID-19 considerations, Rec Sports has cancelled all in-person youth programming (all summer camps as well as year-round Archery, Recreational and Competitive Gymnastics, Skate Classes, and Swimming Lessons) for summer 2020. About This Camp

Campers will spend the morning participating in fun and instructional sports activities at the Golden Bear Recreation Center, and the afternoon exploring the fascinating world of science at the Lawrence Hall of Science. Supervised transportation is provided between each site.
Each week features a theme.

Ages & Eligibility

Campers must be entering grades 3–5 in order to register for this camp.

Camp Details

Week 1: Animal World

Campers explore living things and the natural world surrounding them. We focus on the scientific concepts that explain how plants’ and animals’ habitats provide everything they need to live, how colors help organisms, and the connections in nature between predators, prey, and the resources they both need to survive.

Week 2: Environmental Science

Campers learn how Earth’s surface changes over time and how these changes can be caused by natural forces or influenced by human behavior, and how they can become caretakers with a garden of their own.

Week 3: Forensic Science

Campers investigate a crime scene mystery, find clues, talk to suspects, and investigate all the evidence to come up with their own explanations of what happened—just like real forensic scientists do.

Week 4: Green Energy

Campers explore different sources of energy and learn about alternative energy sources such as solar and wind power and how to use less fossil fuel.

Week 5: Phenomenal of Physics

Campers explore the physical world, focusing on the scientific concepts of air resistance—designing, building, and testing parachutes and air-powered rockets, magnetism—tricks and inventions, and surface tension with soap bubbles.

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Campers in grades 3–5 are pre-assigned 3 activities and are grouped with kids in the same grade.

Sports Activities may include: badminton, basketball, dodgeball, football, Frisbee, FUN games, lacrosse, rugby, table tennis, track, and volleyball.

Swimming is included as one of the activities for all grades.

Refund Policy for Science & Sports Camp.

  • Cancel 60+ days prior to the 1st day of camp, a $200.00 fee will be assessed.
  • Cancel 30-60 days prior to the 1st day of camp, you will receive a 50% refund.
  • Cancel less than 30 days prior to the start of camp, no refunds, credits, or transfers will be granted.
