A beautiful place to rest

An unexpected addition to a collection of scenic locations, Mountain View Cemetery was established in 1863 after planning and design by Frederick Law Olmsted, the renowned mind behind New York’s Central & Prospect Parks. Public parks had yet to be conceptualized when Mountain View was built, and as such families would flock to the high point of the cemetery for picnics and relaxation.

Explore the tree lined winding roads along the Oakland hilltops and take in the views of the Bay and beyond, but certainly don’t overlook the prestigious company around. Many notable people have found their final resting places at Mountain View.
