This experiential camp gives kids the opportunity to observe, examine, and analyze a variety of Bay Area ecosystems – both on the water and on terra firma.

About This Camp
Hands-on marine and terrestrial science in a variety of Bay Area ecosystems. Explore forests, shorelines and estuaries with science educator counselors in local ecosystems and aboard a sailing research vessel.
Ages & Eligibility
Campers must be Ages 11-14 (by December 1, 2019) in order to register for this camp.

Location: UC Berkeley Marina – 124 University Ave Berkeley, CA 94720
All Classes meet and end at the UC Aquatic Center in the Berkeley Marina. Our discovery zone will be East Bay Regional Parks, San Francisco parks, the forested lands of Strawberry Canyon, and Tidepools at Crab Cove, to name a few. We’ll sail throughout the SF Bay, including journeys to Angel Island, Raccoon Straits, The Golden Gate Bridge, and the ocean beyond.
By land and sea, we’ll discover tide pools, examine and evaluate phytoplankton, survey forest ecosystems, sample and analyze SF Bay water, map SF Bay debris, and conduct marine mammal watches! Plus much more!
Each participant must arrive at camp with:
- Backpack (labeled with name) for ease of carrying gear around town
- Shoes or full-coverage sandal with backstap that can be worn in the water (such as: Aquasock or Keens. No flip-flops please)
- Closed toed shoes that can be worn for active play
- Comfortable pants or shorts
- Sweater, sweatshirt, or jacket
- One-Liter Water bottle
- Swimsuit & Towel & Hat
- Bagged lunch with drinks
