Beginning November 16, the Recreational Sports Facility will open on a reservation model to UC Berkeley students. Note that all students are expected to sign the Keep Berkeley Healthy Pledge in CalCentral and students, faculty, and staff are required to complete a daily symptom screener (available through Cal Central, the campus coronavirus site, or UC Berkeley Mobile App via iOS or Android) before entering campus.
Students will need to show a completed daily symptom screener, Cal1 card, and a green badge from the eTang patient portal before they are allowed access to the RSF. Individuals who fail to provide completed daily symptom screener, Cal1 card, and a green badge from the eTang patient portal will be denied facility access. Updates on in-person access to Rec Sports facilities and programs will be posted on our website as received by campus.
What’s Available?
The Recreational Sports Facility will open for limited activities in accordance with county orders and in support of campus efforts related to the pandemic. Campus has approved in-person access to the following indoor fitness activities for UC Berkeley Fall 2020 students only. Updates will be posted to the Rec Sports website.

During the initial return to site period and per state and local government guidelines, the following are temporarily unavailable: locker rooms, basketball courts, racquet and squash courts, cycle studio, fitness training studio, Mind Body Studio, lower level activity courts, and team sport areas. Additionally, towel service is temporarily unavailable.
Reservations

All users must have a reservation to access in-person activities. Reservations can be made on theRec Sports online store. Users can reserve up to one week prior to the start time of the reservation. Users can cancel their reservation up to two hours before the reservation start time. In-person access is currently restricted to UC Berkeley Fall 2020 students; there is no charge for students. Reservations are limited to 45 minutes, from check in to check out. Reservations are limited to three per week. Students will need to show a copy of their daily symptom screener,Cal1 card,and a green badge from the eTang patient portal before they are allowed access to the RSF. Individuals who fail to provide completed daily symptom screener, Cal1 card, and a green badge from the eTang patient portal will be denied facility access. Students may schedule a maximum of one indoor fitness reservation in the RSF per day, with a maximum of three per week. Students may schedule a maximum of one lap swim reservation per day, with a maximum of three per week. Individuals may schedule both an indoor and outdoor reservation on the same day. To cancel a reservation:
Click on your username (or UID) in the upper right.
Click profile.
In your profile, click on Programs>Registrations.
Find your reservation and click CANCEL.
Students who do not show up for reservations will face future restrictions.

Cleaning & Disinfecting

Cleaning Protocols Enhanced cleaning and disinfecting protocols consistent with national, state, local and campus guidelines have been added to our existing cleaning routines during the day. We are asking all staff and users to support these additional cleaning protocols by wiping down exercise equipment before and after use.Disinfecting wipes are available throughout the Rec Sports Facility for users to use on exercise equipment before and after use.Modified Facility Hours We will be adjusting facility operating hours to allow for thorough cleaning and disinfecting. For the most up to date facility schedule, please see our RSF Facility Hours page.Lockers Lockers in the locker room (day use and overnight) are unavailable at this time. Limited atrium day use lockers are available on a first come, first serve basis. Sanitizer Stations Hand Sanitizers Users are encouraged to use hand sanitizer when entering the facility and frequently throughout their visit. Hand sanitizer is available at various stations throughout the facility.Disinfectant WipesUsers will be asked to use disinfectant wipes on equipment before and after use in addition to Rec Sports’ cleaning protocols. Disinfectant wipes will be available throughout the facility.

Face Coverings Users are required to wear a face covering at all times. Note: Some persons may be exempt from wearing face coverings. Signage and Floor Markers

In order for users to give each other enough space, physical distancing cues will be marked in the Group Exercise area, elevators, atrium, and in the weight rooms and cardio areas. Physical distancing signs will show which equipment is available for use, and signs will be placed throughout the facility to remind users to wipe down equipment before and after use and to practice physical distancing.

Refresh and revitalize in one of our mind-body based group exercise classes. Try Yoga, Mindful Strength, or Pilates Core to center your mind and strengthen your body. We love beginners in our classes and welcome all fitness levels. Class BookingTo ensure physical distancing, we will limit capacity for all Group Exercise classes. Advance booking through the Rec Sports online store will be required to attend all classes.Group Exercise EquipmentPlease bring your own exercise mat, towel, and water bottle and be sure to wear your face covering and physically distance throughout the Cardio EquipmentTo facilitate physical distancing, we will reduce equipment available for use. Select equipment will be unplugged and clearly marked unavailable to facilitate physical distancing. Personal Training EquipmentUsers will be asked to practice physical distancing etiquette during Personal Training sessions. Trainers will remain 6 feet away from clients and all cueing and corrections will be done verbally. Virtual Personal Training will continue to be available.

It tracks your testing appointments and will signal a color based on if you are current with the testing. Any student, faculty or staff can see their current status and it is a useful and important tool for those who are on-campus, either living, studying or working. If your badge on the eTang patient portal is not green, you can visit one of the Campus Community Screening Testing Centers to complete a COVID-116 test. What if I have a medical condition that prevents me from wearing a face covering while exercising? Users are required to wear a face covering at all times.
