Rec Sports Fitness Workshops are designed to meet specific health and fitness needs. These workshops are ideal for athletes of all levels.

NASM Certified Personal Trainer Prep Course

NASM CPT Certification is nationally recognized and one of the most highly regarded certification in the personal training industry. NASM’s training systems and methodologies represent the “gold standard” in fitness and its Optimum Performance Training (OPT) Model is the industry’s first comprehensive training program based on current scientific research.

Our 12-week program will be taught by a highly experienced NASM Certified Personal Trainer. You will learn the basics of anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, nutrition, behavioral coaching, and how to design a program specific to your clients’ needs and abilities to help them achieve their goals safely and effectively. Not only will the course prepare you for the certification exam, the course will provide hands-on-practice and shadowing opportunities in the RSF weight room.

Kettlebell Training Workshop

Learn how to use kettlebells to effectively train the entire body and increase your strength and cardiovascular endurance. This class will be an instructional workshop where you’ll learn proper kettlebell movements, learn some coaching cues, and experience a great workout!

Ski & Snowboarding Conditioning

Excited about hitting the slopes this season? There are many health benefits to skiing and snowboarding, but don’t wait until you’re surrounded by snow to start training! Join our Ski and Snowboard Conditioning class which is filled with information about precise muscle movements and routines that start in the gym and will enhance your performance on the slopes. You’ll learn and receive a take-home workout routine that will help you prevent injuries and improve your overall strength and fitness. This course will emphasize on core stability, hip flexibility, knee mobility and leg strength by learning how to improve proprioception, balance and coordination. Come prepared to get a full body workout and the conditioning you need for the slopes! Beginning skiers, snowboarders and seasoned athletes are invited to attend.

Running Technique

Are you looking to start running or have questions about your technique? In this 2 hour clinic, you will learn how to run efficiently and safely, prevent acute and repetitive injuries, and decrease your run time. This class can be used for short sprints or long distance running. Open to all levels.

Capoeria

Capoeira is a unique Brazilian art form that simultaneously brings together beauty, power, mental balance, physical conditioning, self defense, and a profound sense of art. More than a martial art, Capoeira is also a social event filled with tradition and history. Capoeira can be done by anyone of any age or size. All levels welcome. Class meets twice a week for 1.5 hrs.

Nia

The NIA Technique is a form of fusion fitness that incorporates elements of dance, martial arts and healing arts into a class that is part of choreographed and part free form. Beyond the fun and the solid aerobic workout, classes focus on self-expression, healing, and developing mindfulness.

AFAA Certified Instructor Prep Course

The AFAA Group Exercise Instructor Certification is a nationally recognized group exercise certification and is required to teach group fitness classes. In this 10-week program, taught by an AFAA Certified Group Exercise Instructor, you will learn:

  • The basics of the human body and exercise physiology
  • How to design a group fitness class
  • The basics of nutrition and weight management
  • Professional responsibilities and business strategies

If you’re interested in learning the core essentials of teaching group fitness classes and receiving hands on practice and team teaching opportunities, register for this Package 1 Group Exercise Instructor Prep Course.

For an additional fee, you will also have the opportunity to train with Shane Barnard, a highly experienced group exercise instructor and founder of UrbanKick, to learn cueing skills and class sequences, register for Package 2.
