The Triathlon Club introduces new athletes to the sport of triathlon and provides the training that athletes need to excel in competition. The club is open to athletes of all skill levels and teaches new members how to swim, bike and run properly and safely. Membership is open to students, faculty, staff and community members. There are no minimum practice requirements and members can determine there own level of commitment.
The club’s primary focus is to provide a comprehensive year-long training schedule that includes over 10 coached practices in all three disciplines each week. In addition, team meetings provide a platform for educational clinics necessary for new members to learn about the sport. In the spring semester, the club supports its members as they race against other colleges in California as they prepare for the USA Triathlon Collegiate National Championships.
The California Triathlon team is one of the largest teams at UC Berkeley, one of the largest sports club in the nation, and one of the most decorated collegiate triathlon teams in history. Since its inception in 1989, the team has grown to almost 200 members, including first-time swimmers, bikers, and runners, as well as National Champions and Olympic hopefuls. As a team, we have won 1 Overall National Championship, 4 Men’s National Championships, 1 Women’s National Championship, and the Team Spirit Award at Collegiate Nationals. It is our goal to maintain the high level of performance, sportsmanship, and camaraderie that make Cal Triathlon what it is today.
