The Cal Aquatic Masters swim team uses a unique collaborative coaching model in which the coaches work together as a group to develop the coaching plan and write workouts. The annual coaching plan is based on the USMS competition calendar. It has been written to follow a full year which runs from October to September. The year has been divided into three sections: a general conditioning and learning section, a short course section focusing on building speed, developing race strategies and perfecting starts and turns, and an open water/long course section in which distance swimming and open water techniques are featured.
Each week a different coach writes workouts for the team. All coaches follow the same annual coaching plan, which allows for consistency in the structure of the coaching plan, but also provides variety in workouts.
