Golden Bear Recreation & Pool

The Golden Bear Recreation Center (GBRC) offers a pool, tennis courts, an outdoor track, and a softball field, in addition to being the home of Golden Bears Youth Gymnastics and various Cal Youth Camps.

Pool

The pool includes six lanes that are 25 yards in length with water temperature kept at 79-80 degrees F. The shallow end is three and a half feet deep and the deep end is ten feet deep. Open recreation lap swim only. Amenities include locker rooms, hot showers, lockers (bring your own lock), swimsuit spinners, and kickboards. No towel service is available.

Unfortunately, the pool is not wheelchair accessible (visit the Spieker Pool, or Strawberry Canyon Pool pages to learn about wheelchair-accessible facilities).

Who Can Use It?

To access Golden Bear pool, you must be a UC Berkeley student or have an active Recreation & Wellbeing membership. Learn more about our Day Pass options for members of the community.

Day Passes

Ages 12 and up: $15.00

Guests must be 13 or older to swim at GBRC

Location

The Golden Bear Pool is located at the GBRC on Sports Lane, at the top of Dwight Way. To enter the pool facility continue walking passed the main facility entrance, walk up the stairs and enter through south gate.

Street parking is available along Dwight Way and in the metered spaces directly across from the GBRC building.

Hours

Lap swim hours are available to Recreation & Wellbeing members. View the lap swim schedule for specific hours of availability.

Golden Bear Rec Center

Home to the Golden Bears Youth Gymnastics program, which offers year-round and summer camp programs for gymnasts of all skill levels.

Location

Street parking is available along Dwight Way and in the metered spaces directly across from the GBRC building.

Tennis Courts

The two hard courts of Golden Bear Tennis Courts are available for Open Recreation use during most of the year, but are reserved for youth camps during summer weekdays. The court has lights for night play.

Who Can Use It?

Golden Bear Tennis Courts offer open recreation hours to Recreation & Wellbeing. The courts can also be reserved in person at the Recreational Sports Facility (RSF) locker room guest services counter or by calling (510) 642-8345.

Location

Four blocks south from main campus, GBRC Tennis Courts are located on the Clark Kerr Campus (residence halls), off of Dwight Way, near the Hillside Avenue intersection.

Street parking is available along Dwight Way and in the metered spaces directly across from the GBRC building.

Track

Golden Bear Track is an outdoor track with a dirt running surface that is a quarter-mile long. There are no lanes and no evening fields lights available.

Who Can Use It?

Golden Bear Track offers open recreation hours to Recreation & Wellbeing. The track is also home to Cal Sport Clubs and summer youth camps.

Location

The Golden Bear Track is located on Sports Lane, at the top of Dwight Way. It is behind the GBRC building.

Street parking is available along Dwight Way and in the metered spaces directly across from the GBRC building.

Softball Field

Golden Bear Softball Field is a baseball/softball diamond used for Sport Club practices, summer camp activities, and special events. Beyond the diamond, the field is a natural grass surface with dirt base paths. Evening field lights are available and the space can be rented. No food or alcohol is allowed on the field.

Who Can Use It?

Golden Bear Softball Field is only used for Cal Sport Club practices, summer camp activities, and special events. It can also be rented by calling 510-643-7327 or emailing recschedule@berkeley.edu.

Location

The field is four blocks south from the main campus in front of the GBRC building and is located just off of Dwight Way at the North end of the Clark Kerr Campus.

Street parking is available along Dwight Way and in the metered spaces directly across from the GBRC building.

Skate Park

The Cal Skateboarding Facility contains assorted ramps for transition skating, including the 12.5 foot vert ramp, mini ramp, and nano ramp. The facility also includes the Estuary; the facility’s bowl skateboarding area, and obstacles for street skating; with a street course under construction.

Who Can Use It? 

The Cal Skateboarding Facility is only available to registered participants, including youth participants in the Year-Round program and Cal Youth Camps

Location

The Cal Skateboarding Facility is located at the Clark Kerr Campus, on Sports Lane just past the tennis courts.

Street parking is available along Dwight Way, the metered spaces directly across from the GBRC building, along Sports Lane, and at the Clark Kerr Building 22 lot.
