We’re working hard to make Rec Sports an environmentally-friendly place. Over the last few years we’ve made some significant changes, such as changing all the lights in the RSF to energy-saving fluorescent bulbs, installing motion detectors in the activity areas so that lights go off when rooms are not in use, and switching to a laundry detergent that requires less water, thereby savings thousands of gallons of water every year.
These changes are making a difference. The energy savings from the lighting retro fit and the installation of motion detectors has reduced our energy use by 250,000 kwh per year, the equivalent of removing 132,000 lbs. of CO2 from the air each year. Overall, the RSF’s energy use is going down — we’re using 17% less energy now than we did in 1989. This is great for the planet, but also for our budget; we’re saving over $25,000 per year due to reduced energy costs.
